Family and Community
International Evening
At St Mark’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that a strong, connected community is essential for promoting justice, supporting the vulnerable, and addressing inequalities. Our approach is grounded in CST, particularly the principles of solidarity, the preferential option for the poor, the dignity of the human person, participation, and the common good.
International Evening, which brings families together, fosters mutual understanding, and strengthens community cohesion. This reflects the CST principle of solidarity, encouraging children and families to value and support one another.
Nativity
Our children also develop meaningful relationships with one of the local care homes, participating in shared activities and inviting residents to school events such as the Nativity or the Year 6 end-of-year performance. These interactions teach pupils to respect the dignity of the human person, value older members of society, and act with compassion and care.
Through practical service initiatives, children learn the importance of responding to those in need. During the harvest term, pupils collect food donations for local food banks, and at Christmas, the school organises hamper boxes for families in need. These actions reflect the CST principle of the preferential option for the poor, demonstrating that helping those who are vulnerable is a moral and Christian responsibility.
